Montgomery County Man Convicted Of Producing Child Pornography

Sentencing is scheduled for January..

Greenbelt, Md (KM) After 30-minutes of deliberations, a federal jury on Thursday  convicted a Montgomery County man on 18-counts of production of child pornography. Sentencing for Kyle Stephen Thompson, 33, of Burtonsville is scheduled for January 28th, 2019. The US Attorney’s Office for Maryland says he could get 15-years in prison,  and up to 30-years for each of the 18 counts for which he was convicted.

Federal prosecutors say testimony at Thompson’s trial revealed that the defendant engaged in sexually explicit conduct with three girls between May 9th, 2015 and January 28th, 2017 in order to produce the child pornography.

During the trial, jurors learned that police serving a search and seizure warrant at Thompson’s home on March 17th, 2017, found a Secure Digital memory card which contained 18-videos of Thompson sexually abusing three girls. The victims were two and four years of age at the time.

Federal officials say the case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched by the US Department of Justice in May, 2006, to combat the epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse. Under the leadership of US Attorney’s Offices and the Criminal Division’s  Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section, the program brings together federal, state and local resources to identity and rescue victims.
