Junior Forward Sara Hohn went on an amazing scoring spree in the post season to carry Thomas Johnson HS Girls Soccer all the way to the state championship game for the first time in more than a decade. In fact her prolific goal scoring in the playoffs put her in first place at the end of the season in all of Frederick County Girls Soccer. Sara finished with with a total of 46 points including 19 goals. Sara scored 9 goals in 5 playoff games including 4 in the Sectional Semi Final against North Hagerstown and a 3 goal “hat trick” against Manchester Valley in the 3A West Championship game. TJ’s dream season came to an end in the State Title game against Northern Calvert but Sara scored her 19th goal of the season on a free kick in the 3-1 state semifinal win over Mt. Hebron. A November to never forget for Sara Hohn, Coach Adam Weinstein and Thomas Johnson Girls Soccer!
Oakdale High School Senior Quarterback Collin Schlee, a Kent State commit, came up big in the biggest game of all: The Maryland 2A State Championship Game at Navy-Marine Corps Stadium in Annapolis against previously unbeaten Glenelg HIgh School. The Bears finished at 13-0 for the first state title in football in school history. Coach Kurt Stein, the only head football coach Oakdale has ever had, completed a rags to riches run from a JV squad in 2010, a winless varsity season in 2011, to a State Championship in 2018. Collin did it both ways against Glenelg, rushing for 89 yards and two touchdowns and passing for 210 yards and two more touchdowns as the Bears erased an early 7-0 deficit and won going away, 35-7. Collin passed for 1,711 yards and 25 touchdowns and ran for 733 yards and 10 touchdowns in the 2018 season. Maybe his biggest touchdown run of his high school career came in the clutch in the state championship game with the Bears trailing for only the third time all season at 7-0. Collin kept the ball and sprinted 66 yards down the sideline for a touchdown and the beginning of a 35 point Oakdale scoring streak to a championship!
