One Man Killed In Cumberland House Fire

The fire caused $70,000 damage.

 

Cumberland, Md (KM) The Maryland State Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating a fatal fire in Cumberland on Monday afternoon.

Fire fighters from Maryland and West Virginia responded to 614 West Industrial Boulevard at around 3:30 PM after a passerby and a neighbor saw the fire and called 911. 30 fire fighters spent ten-minutes bringing the flames under control.

Fire officials say a female occupant was rescued from the fire, but Laurence Parkinson, 85, was trapped in the home. After he was rescued, Parkinson was taken to Western Maryland Regional Hospital Center where he died. His body was transported to the State Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy.

The State Fire Marshal’s Office says the home had no working smoke alarms.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.. Damage is estimated at $70,000.
