Even though many companies offer guys time away for paternity leave, only a small fraction of them actually take advantage of the perk.
Only 12 percent of fathers actually take the full amount of paid leave that’s available to them – compared to 69 percent of mothers.
While many do take some time, 90 percent only take two weeks or less.
This could have something to do with the fear that being away from work for an extended time will hurt their career. Or, more likely, guys don’t take time away from work because babysitting and changing poopy diapers are terrible jobs that they’d rather not get stuck with. (NYMag.com)
