A Frederick Police officer was allegedly assaulted by a local man after he attempted to arrest him for littering.
An officer said Jalonte Thomas-Leach threw a water bottle into the creek at Carroll Creek Linear Park, authorities said in a press release. When the officer approached him and told him he was under arrest, authorities said Thomas-Leach refused to obey the officer's demands, when the officer tried to place handcuffs on him.
Thomas-Leach attempted to flee the scene and continued to resist arrest, the release said. A struggle ensued and authorities said the officer was struck on the top of his head with a closed fist by Thomas-Leach. The suspect was eventually taken into custody.
The arresting officer suffered a minor abrasion to his right hand and was treated at the scene.
Thomas-Leach, of North East Street, is charged with several offfenses, including second degree assault and possession of marijuana.
