A Williamsport man has been arrested for arson. The Maryland State Fire Marshal's office arrested 57 year old Daniel Levasseur for intentionally setting fire to a vacant two story single family home on North Artizan Street, in Washington County. Authorities said an alert neighbor called 911 after observing the suspect running from the home after seeing heavy smoke coming from the dwelling.
Investigators said the fire was contained to the kitchen and caused an estimated $35,000 in damage to the structure.
Levasseur is charged with 2nd degree arson, first degree malicious burning, and malicious destruction of property. If convicted of the charges, he faces a penalty of up to 28 years in prison and over $37,000 in fines.
