The National Museum of Civil War Medicine has the following upcoming events:

v     To commemorate the 150th anniversary of the Battle of Antietam, the Pry House Field Hospital Museum is hosting a special exhibit of Civil War artifacts recovered from the Antietam Battlefield.  The exhibit features a diverse collection of items found buried at the William Roulette Farm.  The exhibit will be displayed from now till September 29th.

The Frederick County Humane Society is offering the following activities:

v     Right now their emergency pet food bank is extremely low on supplies.  For the next two months you may drop off pet food and supplies at Copy Doc Business Solutions.  They are located at 436 West Patrick Street and their business hours are Monday thru Friday from 7am till 6pm.

The Frederick County Humane Society is the county’s oldest non-profit organization dedicated to helping pets and their families.  They are located at 217 West Patrick Street in downtown Frederick.

NorthStar Community Church, located at 11801 Fingerboard Road, Suite 16 in Monrovia has opened a cooling station.  This site has the capacity to assist residents with basic necessities to survive the extreme heat conditions this summer.  The Cooling Center provides an air-conditioned facility for when the National Weather Service declares a Heat Emergency Advisory.  It has free movies, a library, a place to charge electronics and other activities.  The site is opened from 9am till 8pm daily through the Heat Emergency Advisory.  For more information please call Sharon Blache at 301.401.2456

In honor of Hagerstown’s 250th Anniversary, the Washington County Museum of Fine Arts will present a focus exhibition of art and artifacts related to Hagerstown and its founder, Captain Jonathan Hagar.  The exhibit will be from September 18th thru October 28th and will coincide with many of the events planned throughout Hagerstown celebrating this important anniversary.

Vietnam Veterans of America, Frederick Chapter VVA-304 will participate in the National POW/MIA Recognition Day observed across the nation.  A ceremony will take place at Memorial Park located on the corner of Bentz and Second Street at 7pm.  All are welcome to come and remember their sacrifices.
