After a hair raising five set victory over Linganore, the Tuscarora Volleyball team shares the regular season Piedmont Championship with the Lancers and Oakdale. The Tuscarora team won 13 of 14 games and now prepares to play in the 3A West quarterfinals. Head Coach Ricardo Vera and the entire team squeeze into the WFMD studios for this edition of Frederick County Sports Weekend. We meet Senior Katie Stouffer leading the county in kills with an average of 3.86 a game and #6 in the county in digs with an average of 3.63. Another senior and team leader is Asia Whitney, Junior Angie Hanshaw is in the top ten in the county in digs and freshman setter Ysabel Waever leads the county in assists with an average of 7.96 a game and a total of 382 assists for the season! Coach Vera admits he is a little surprised at the success of the team this season but he said he knew he had tons of talent when he began practices last August. There is sophomore Aubrey Ferrel who is #4 in kills in the county, another sophomore Abigail Krobock has been outstanding, Rebekah Hanshaw is only a freshman, Erika DeSalvo is a senior veteran who is a team leader, Madeline Roat is yet another freshman star.
