CHALLENGES FACING LITTLE LEAGUE BASEBALL ON THIS SUNDAY'S FREDERICK COUNTY SPORTS WEEKEND ON WFMD!

Rick Wilson, President of the Frederick American Little League and Jim Gill, who runs the Four County Little League are Ed Lulie's guests on this Sunday's Frederick County Sports Weekend on WFMD.   What they have to say may surprise you.   Little League baseball is facing stiff challenges from Youth Soccer, Football, Lacrosse, Basketball, Swimming and other sports.   One of the most serious issues is that many coaches and parents want young athletes to specialize in one sport year round rather than playing a variety of sports.  All of this is making it tougher to fill Little League Baseball rosters.   And if competition from other sports wasn't bad enough,  Little League is getting squeezed by other baseball leagues and programs and travel leagues for elite players.  Wilson and Gill talk about all of this and also say why they think Little League baseball still has a very important place in modern sports.    The state of Little League baseball in Frederick County,  this Sunday (2/17) at 12:05 pm on 930 WFMD Radio and the streaming audio of wfmd.com
