WFMD's Ed Lulie talks with Coach John Murray and members of the Tuscarora High School Boys Tennis team this Sunday. The top Tuscarora Doubles team consists of Twin brothers Tyler and Nathan Homon and they are off to a red hot start. Another top player in the county is Tuscarora's #1 Singles man, Tyler Shuck. They talk about the individual oriented sports like tennis versus the team sports such as baseball or softball. They tell how they got started as Tennis players and what their plans for the future are, maybe coaching? Coach John Murray will give us a look at the strength of the tennis programs in Frederick County. Pete MacLeod (right) has more than 30 years experience covering high school and college sports. From 1978 thru 1997 he did high school football, basketball, ice hockey and baseball play by play for WSRO Radio in Marlborough, Mass. He also co-hosted a weekly high school sports show at the station from 1991 thru 1997 and did play by play on radio and Cable TV for the Marlborough Shamrocks , semi pro football team , of the Eastern Football League from 1987 thru 1997. Pete also did play by play of Brown University football on the "First Sports Network" in Rhode Island for the 1988 and 1989 seasons and did Holy Cross Football play by play on WTAG in Worcester, Mass. for the 1985 season.
Before coming to WFMD, Pete covered high school football and basketball for WFTR in Front Royal, Va. and WXVA in Charlestown, W.Va. Pete works as an editor and, occasional sports reporter, for National Public Radio in Washington.
EDWARD LULIE
Edward Lulie (left) is a lifelong resident of Maryland and has two sons.. He has coached Football and basketball in the Middletown Valley Athletic Association and been the color commentator for WFMD High School Football broadcasts for the last seven years (with Pete McLeod doing the hard work-play by play!) A graduate of the University of Baltimore Law School, Edward was appointed to be Community Prosecutor in 2008 and continues in that position. He has practiced law in Frederick since 1979.
He has experience both as a writer and commentator. An enthusiastic supporter of athletics in Western Maryland he hopes that Frederick County Sports Weekend continues to help helps bring well deserved recognition to the many talented athletes and coaches in our area and helps thereby to increase public awareness and support.

Coach Darrick Scott says he is excited to have 10 Seniors on this year's Thomas Johnson softball team.
He also has a Freshman Catcher, Johanna Mettler , who plays like a Senior! And he has a Sophomore Pitcher, Alexis Burke, who knows how to shut down batters and also get super grades in school. Coach Scott tells TJ fans to watch Senior Shelly Morse and her deadly curve ball. Shelly is headed to Liberty University next year! Shelly's sister Caroline is also going to Liberty and tracks balls in leftfield like a hawk. Senior Brittany Mchugh is the player with the golden glove accoriding to Coach Scott. And then there is another Senior, Taylor Haller who has awesome bat speed. Taylor plans to play next year at Frederick Community College. Coach Scott tells WFMD's Ed Lulie that this is only part of the aggressive team he has assembled for this season. Frederick High School Boys Swimming coach Adam Frank says his program is alive and well and enjoyed a very successful season in 2012-2013. There is Mitch Reynolds of course who won his third straight state championship in the 500 meter freestyle. But Coach Frank is proud of the entire boys team which finished over .500 Reynolds is not only a champion in the freestyle but he holds the best time this season in Frederick County in the 100 meter Butterfly and is second in the county in the 100 meter Backstroke and also competes in the Medley and also swims long distances with his club team. Three high schools in Frederick County have pools and Frederick is one of them and Coach Frank says that gives his swimmers a big advantage. On the show Sunday, Reynolds will tell how he won this year's state championship at the University of Maryland's Eppley Recreation Center. He said you have to know who you are swimming against and plan your strategy , which in his case, involved falling back early and then finishing strong.
