Troy --

I don’t know about you, but I don’t know too many people who can afford a $2,000 tax hike right now. Not after the recession we’re finally climbing out of.

Yet here we are, barely two weeks until Christmas, and Republicans are still threatening to allow a $2,000 tax hike on middle class families in order to protect Bush-era tax breaks for the rich.

It’s clear that Republicans won’t protect the middle class unless they feel forced to do it. So let’s make that happen: Please join the DLCC and the Daily Kos community in writing to Congress to demand a vote on protecting the middle class.

Forcing this vote, through what’s called a Discharge Petition, may be the only way to simultaneously end the Bush Tax Cuts for the top 2% while saving middle class families from an average $2,000 tax hike.

The outcome of this debate could determine how the next two years will unfold: will Republicans keep voting in lock-step against anything that might help the middle class and boost our economy? Or will they relent under pressure from an American public that is watching what they do?

Please make sure your member of Congress knows that you want this vote.

Sincerely,

Michael Sargeant
