The Federal Communications Commission approves the transfer of WPEN-AM from Greater Media to Harold Camping’s Family Stations, Inc.  Back in September, Greater Media announced that it would be selling the AM side of its sports talk duo – WPEN-AM/FM at 950 AM and 97.5 FM respectively – to Family Stations for $8.5 million.  Some sports talk operators, including WPEN-FM’s crosstown competitor CBS Radio which owns WIP-AM/FM, are keeping their AM sports talk stations in the fold in order to air more play-by-play when conflicts occur or are targeting the Hispanic audience with such programming as ESPN Deportes.  Obviously, Greater Media saw an excellent opportunity to get some cash back into the coffers with the sale of WPEN-AM.   View it in your browser.
