"What lies behind us and what lies before us are small matters compared to what lies within us." ~ Ralph Waldo Emerson
CREATIVITY isn't a new concept. Organizations have recognized its importance for years. But did you know that over 1,500 C-level leaders in the public and private sectors recently identified it as the COMPETENCY MOST CRITICAL TO SUCCESS - even more so than influence, integrity, and global thinking?
That's what the IBM Global Chief Executive Officer Study revealed. Unfortunately, those same leaders admit their enterprises are not properly equipped to cope effectively with the challenges and complexities of today's environment. So how can your organization stay ahead of the game and effectively integrate creativity into its DNA?
Let's take a closer look at creativity - and why your organization needs to invest in developing this skill in its leaders, teams, and employees.
For starters, what is creativity? Pre-conceived notions abound. Terms such as "artistic" and "imaginative" are what usually come to mind. Yet the true definition of creativity is really quite simple. According to subject matter expert Dr. Lynne Levesque, Creativity Is The Ability To Produce Different And Valuable Results. It's the different and valuable results that generate a lengthy list of significant benefits. Creativity is what differentiates thriving organizations from those that are stuck treading water. It's the driving force behind profitability, productivity, and growth, just to name a few. And most importantly, IT'S THE KEY TO A STRATEGIC ADVANTAGE.
GLOBALIZATION. COMPETITION. TECHNOLOGY. AND THE ECONOMY:
Today's leaders are faced with challenges that require them to explore innovative solutions to new problems, question the status quo, streamline processes, and achieve higher levels of efficiency. Creative leaders are better able to think differently about products and business models, and risks. That's because creativity is the leadership quality that empowers them to deal with complexities, invite disruption, and think outside of the box.
As Harvard Business School Professor, Teresa Amabile, and other experts have pointed out, an organization whose leaders are open to new ideas and are able to integrate creativity into the ``
Inventive solutions are needed for organizations to thrive, but how can business leaders deliberately increase creativity? The good news is that everyone has creative talents - and they can be further developed. The first step is to realize that creativity comes in many shapes. Just as there are multiple styles of intelligence, there are multiple styles of creativity. Start with self-discovery. People gain power when they recognize how they are creative - and know what they need to do to improve their creative talents.
INNOVATION & CREATIVITY:
Uncover & nurture creative talents within your workforce.
- Challenge individuals to take action and develop a stronger sense of creative talent.
- Focus on the impact individual differences have on the team's creative results, explore the team's creativity culture, and identify gaps and opportunities.
- Help individuals and teams apply their creative talents to solving tough problems, understand the impact of individual differences on the ability to creatively solve problems, and develop an action plan to become more creative.
*Once understood, organizations can put together complete and well-balanced teams of workers who offer complementary strengths and skills. Because team members reinforce each other, problem solving occurs faster and with a greater likelihood of success than on typical teams. By recognizing your own strengths and respecting the strengths of others, teammates are better able to accept their personal roles and responsibilities to better accomplish common and conflicting goals. Team members will find the behavior of others less threatening. Since there is less negative emotion, there is less conflict. The success of the team depends on the participation and contribution of each member in the overall work process.

COURSE OF THE WEEK—TEAM BUILDING COMMUNICATION: The foundation of personal and professional success lies in understanding yourself, understanding others, and realizing the impact of personal behavior on others. In this workshop, participants will learn the various stages of team development, why conflicts exist within and between groups, and strategies for resolving issues and gaining influence skills. A collaborative discussion model is taught and practiced during the workshop using real-life workplace situations.
This workshop provides insight into communication styles and explains how adjusting your style to fit differing group situations can enhance your personal effectiveness.
