A citizen of the Dominican Republic was sentenced on Friday to 42 months in prison for passport fraud. After he gets out, Leavitt Rodriguez, 29, who also goes under the alias Jose Luis Rosario Colon, will be put on three-years supervised released.

US Attorney for Maryland, Rod Rosenstein made the announcement on Friday, along with John Schilling with the Washington Field Office of the US Department of State’s Diplomatic Security Service.

During his three-day trial, the US Attorney’s Office says evidence was presented that Rodriguez twice applied for a passport at the Hagerstown Post Office, on June 9th, 2006, and on December 6th, 2009, using the name Jason Anthony Bell. Witnesses testified that Bell died on June 29th, 2009. The court also heard testimony that Rodriguez purchased Bell’s Social Security card, and a family member revealed Rodriguez’ true identity, saying he was born in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.

Sentencing took place in US District Court in Baltimore.
