The National Weather Service has issued a flood watch for our region through Tuesday evening.

The NWS posted on it's website that Hurricane Sandy is expected to make landfall Monday night around the New Jersey shore then head west through Pennsylvania. The storm could produce between five and nine inches of rain, with some areas getting even more.

Rainfall could cause creeks and streams to rise quickly and flood low lying and urban areas. Flooding is currently forecast for the Monocacy River near Frederick.

A high wind warning for Frederick and the surrounding areas has been issued from Monday at 8 a.m. until Tuesday at 8 p.m.

The area could see wind gusts over 45 miles per hour by Monday morning and up to 60 miles per hour Monday afternoon into Tuesday.

The high wind and heavy rains could lead to significant tree damage. Residents and business should plan for widespread power and communication outages.
