Frederick County has named Kevin Lollar their new CEO to reenergize the program that has helped shape thousands of kids lives.
Lollar said, because of his past he can better relate to the children.
"I have a lot that I can offer to the kids. I had a difficult or challenging childhood. Many times having to go on my own and make my own way and I feel that I can be an example to many of these kids that you can make it, you just have to pursue your goal," Lollar said.
He wants to do everything he can to make the program better in the mid-Maryland region.
"We need volunteers, not only do we need volunteers but we need to increase our funding so we can provide the services to these kids," Lollar said.
Lollar said, right now there are more than 70 kids in the program and hopes to provide to more than 150 in the upcoming year. A recent study showed that youth who participate in the program have more educational success and decreases risky behaviors.
The program has been around nationally for more than 100 years and helping kids in Frederick County for more than 30 years.
