State Police have put the Snow Emergnecy Plan in affect.
The winter precipitation is coming down in Frederick County and surrounding jurisdictions.
The National Weather Service in Sterling, Va. has put the region under a Winter Weather Advisory until 6:00 AM Thursday. Frederick County Highway Operations crews have been out since 4:00 AM pre-treating roads. "We use an actual salt and anti-skid mixture we drop right in the center of the road, right before the storm hits," says Superintendent Bill Routzahn. "As the precip falls, it helps melt whatever is falling." And that helps get it off the road, says Routzahn.
There have been numerous vehicle crashes in the county, but so far nothing serious.
Routzahn says if you have to go out today, take it easy since there could be some icy spots on the road. "You never know where your going to hit an icy spot," he says.
The National Weather Service says it will be cloudy on Thursday, then gradually become sunny with highs near 39.
