Frederick County Delegate Kelly Schulz has some specific economic legislative ideas she feels will help Frederick County and Maryland.
As Maryland residents celebrated the beginning of 2013, state politicians are anticipating their return to Annapolis and the legislative agenda they will be putting forth.
Frederick County Delegate Kelly Schulz has some specific economic legislative ideas she feels will help Frederick County and Maryland.
Schulz said she hopes there will be no new tax increases this year, "so that local businesses and corporations may remain competitive with those in our neighboring states."
According to the web site 'Change Maryland', Gov. Martin O'Malley is already considering a proposed gas tax hike of at least 5 cents per gallon during the next legislative session to provide funds for repairs to the decaying road infrastructure. Schulz is hoping to avoid any new taxes for her constituents.
Schulz said the shootings in Newtown, Connecticut have caused may politicians to immediately call for significant restrictive gun legislation. She prefers legislation aimed at the 'root' of the problem rather than jumping to an early conclusion.
One issue that local governments are dealing with is synthetic drugs. Schulz feels it's important to empower the County Government to deal with the problem before the introduction of Charter Government in two years. "There is a possibility of a state wide bill being introduced but the current legislation just deals with local jurisdictions handling the problem."
The Maryland General Assembly will reconvene on Wednesday January 9, 2013.
