Suspect Charged With Assault

Police say it was over a borrowed car that had not been returned.

 

Charges have been filed against a Takoma Park, Md. man by Frederick Police in connection with an assault. Reginald Derrick Dowston was taken into custody late Friday night following an incident in the 400 block of West South Street. He is charged with 1st-degree asasult, 2nd-degree assault and reckless endangerment.

Police officers were called to the scene to investigate complaints from a woman that someone with a knife broke into her home, and was attempting to kill her. Authorities arrested Dowston at the scene. Officers also recovered a knife, and saw blood and damage at the scene.

Detectives from the Criminal Investigation Division were called out. They determined that the victim and the assailant knew each other, and the dispute involved a borrowed car that the victim had not returned to the suspect. The blood was from two men who came to the assistance of the vicitm when she was being assaulted. During the fight, the two men were cut with the knife.

The victim was treated at the scene, and the two men were treated and released at Frederick Memorial Hospital.
