A Mount Airy man was found guilty late Thursday night in Frederick County Circuit Court, in connection to a child sex abuse case. States Attorney Charlie Smith said Robert Lawrence Sam was indicted back in June of last year on several counts of sex abuse of a minor, as well as sex abuse of a minor in a continuing course of conduct. "His trial started about three days ago and concluded late last night with a verdict of guilty. His bond was revoked, therefore he went to jail, and his sentencing was continued until next month," Smith said.

The incidents occurred during the time when Sam was responsible for the supervision of a middle school aged girl. "He actually abused her during a period of years, stemming back to about 2010," continued Smith.

The 53 year old man will be sentenced on March 27th. "We will be asking for the maximum, which will mean that Mr. Sam could spend the rest of his life behind bars," Smith added.
