Morning commute could be icy.
The National Weather Service says a light wintry mix is anticipated for the Frederick area at the onset overnight and that could cause problems on roadways, because a light blaze of ice from freezing rain is possible into Friday morning, with accumulating snow expected Friday afternoon.
Super intendant of Frederick County Highway Operations, Bill Routzahn, is hoping that the storm will head north of us. "But if it does produce any kind of rain tonight it could fall in the form of freezing rain because road temperatures are fairly cold, still. There is a fair amount of material on the roads. But if we get freezing rain, it will still have a tendency to want to freeze up on us. Be extra careful when you come out tomorrow," said Routzhan.
Weather officials say strong gusty winds will accompany this storm. "You want to look out for falling tree limbs, too."
