The investigation continues into a two-vehicle crash Monday morning near Westminster which claimed the life of a math teacher.

The Carroll County Sheriff's Office says a Ford Focus operated by Devin Michael Spence, 24, of Westminster was traveling north along Sullivan Road near the intersection with Route 27, when it entered a sharp turn, and slid across the center line. The Focus spun sideways, and hit an oncoming school bus. "After striking the bus, the Ford Focus burst into flames. It spun southbound back across the roadway, coming to rest on the northbound shoulder," says Major Phil Kasten with the Carroll County Sheriff's Office.

Spence was killed in the crash. He was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the Sheriff's Office.

Spence was heading to Manchester Valley High School, where he's taught mathematics since January, 2012. School officials say extra counselors were on hand for students and staff.

All of the occupants on the bus were not hurt. Five students were being transported to Delone Catholic High School in Pennsylvania.

"Sullivan Road was closed most of the morning for investigation," says Major Kasten. "Icy road conditions are believed to have contributed to the accident."
