Each spring the United States House of Representatives sponsors an art competition for high school students. The winning entry from Maryland’s Eighth Congressional District will be displayed in the United States Capitol alongside artwork from every congressional district across the country. The runners-up will be displayed in Congressman Van Hollen’s offices.
All high school students who reside in or attend school in the Eighth Congressional District are encouraged to participate. Entry forms need to be submitted to the Congressman’s office by Monday, April 15, 2013.
A juried exhibition of submitted artwork will be on display at Capitol Arts Network/Washington School of Photography in Rockville from April 29 – May 16, 2013.
Congressman Van Hollen will host an Arts Celebration and Awards Reception at Capitol Arts Network/Washington School of Photography on Sunday, April 28, 2013 at 2:00 pm to honor all participants.
On Saturday, May 4th, CAN/WSP will conduct a student artist workshop in conjunction with the congressional exhibition that will discuss professional development for emerging artists, portfolio development and technique suggestions from professional artists.
