The man had to be pulled from the burning car.
A vehicle fire was reported in the 300 hundred block of Broadway Street early Saturday morning.
When Frederick Police arrived they found a car around the corner on Madison Street, with the front end engulfed in flames and the entire passenger compartment filled with thick smoke. The officer attempted, unsuccessfully, to extinguish the blaze, and then was able to open the driver's side door and pull someone from the vehicle to safety, as firefighters were arriving on the scene.
A preliminary investigation revealed that David Walker, of Washington, D.C. hit a parked car. The collision left the vehicle incapable of driving forward, so police said Walker spun his wheels with such a degree of speed and force, causing one of the tires to catch on fire.
Police said he refused medical treatment and was later arrested and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, driving on a suspended out of state license, and other traffic offenses.
