Accuweather says the area needs the rain.
It looks like the rainy, cool weather will be with us for a while. The precipitation is expected to last through Wednesday, according to Accuweather meteorologist Frank Strait. "It's looks like we're going to stay unsettled for a couple of days, here actually," he says. "A very slow moving storm system that's going to be pushing its way up the eastern seaboard over the next couple of days." Strait says that wet weather could last through Wednesday into Thursday.
While some people may not want the rain, it's being welcomed by many farmers and gardeners. "Actually, a good bit of the Mid-Atlantic and the northeastern part of the country have been dry since the 1st of April," Strait says.
However, Strait says sunny skies and warm temperatures will return later in the week. "By the time we get to Thursday, with the sun starting to pop out, we should get into the 70's at least," he says. "Friday, even though it will still be unsettled with perhaps an afternoon shower or thunderstorm, we're looking for a high near 80."
Then its' back to the rain and cool temperatures. "After that, another cold front is going to move in move. Saturday's looking wet with that, and noticeably cooler for a few days after that," he says.
Despite the fact that we didn't receive a lot of snow, winter doesn't seem to want to let go. "Indeed, winter got a late start, but it's definitely getting a late finish this year," Strait says.
