The driver of the car who struck the man, failed to stay at the scene.
The Frederick County Sheriff's Office is investigating a fatal accident that happened late Wednesday night.
At around 11:40 p.m., Deputies responded to Buckeystown Pike near Grove Road for a reported hit and run accident.
A police investigation revealed that a man was walking northbound along Rt. 85 when he was hit by a vehicle. The vehicle left the scene and a few moments later, a second vehicle traveling northbound did not see the man lying in the road and struck him again.
The second vehicle did stop and stayed at the scene through out the investigation.
Witnesses say the first vehicle that struck the man was a 4-door passenger car, possibly a Chevrolet Malibu.
The man was pronounced dead at the scene and has been identified as Levon Duvall Hallenbeck, 32, from Frederick.
Police are continuing to investigate the accident and are asking anyone with information to call (301)600-3908.
