An investigation is underway.
The public's assistance is needed regarding damage to the Loys Station covered bridge. The Frederick County Bureau of Investigation says it occurred sometime between 8:00 AM and 2:45 PM on Tuesday, October 15th.
Authorities say it appears a large vehicle, or possibly a piece of high profile equipment entered the bridge and struck the support, ripping out the beam.
Anyone with information on this incident is asked to call Captain Tim Clarke at the Bureau of Investigation at 301-600-3643.
The span was damaged by an arson fire in 1993, but was rebuilt the next year.
Loys Station is one of three historic covered bridges in Frederick County. The other two are Roddy Road Bridge and the Utica Mills Bridge.
