Police believe speed and alcohol played a role in the crash.
Maryland State Police in Frederick say one person is in critical condition after a single vehicle crash early Saturday morning, in Walkersville.
It happened shortly before 2:30 a.m. on Route 194, just north of the Route 26 intersection, when a Pontiac, going northbound on Route 194 traveled into a field, before striking a telephone pole and then overturning, authorities said in a press release.
The driver of the vehicle lost control, police said. There were three occupants in the car, one who was trapped, sustaining critical injuries. That passenger was flown to Shock Trauma, in Baltimore, by Maryland State Police Helicopter Trooper 3, the release said. The driver of the vehicle was taken by ambulance to Meritus Medical Center, in Hagerstown. A 3rd passenger in the Firebird was later released from the scene after refusing further medical treatment from EMS personnel.
Police believe alcohol and speed were factors in the collision.
