Two local men were injured during a fight on the Blue Ridge Mountain in Jefferson County late Thursday night, according to Jefferson County Sheriff Robert "Bobby" Shirley.
James Roy Tingley was sitting in front of the residence and had suffered a knife wound to his back and Clint Hendricks was lying on the ground between two vehicles after suffering a gunshot wound to his upper body when officers arrived, according to Shirley.
Ages and addresses for Tingley and Hendricks were unavailable Friday morning but in a phone interview Friday, Shirley said both men were local residents.
The Jefferson County Sheriff's Department received a call for a stabbing victim at a residence located at 365 Cedar Run Lane, Harpers Ferry, at approximately 10:45 p.m. Thursday, according to Shirley.
Officers received information that a second victim had suffered a gunshot wound and that both individuals were still at the scene, Shirley said.
There were two witnesses present during the fight that led to the injuries, according to Shirley.
"Both the witnesses said that these two guys got in an altercation ..., outside the residence and they were wrestling on the ground and one stabbed the other one and the other shot the other one," Shirley said.
Shirley could not say how deep the knife wound was that Tingley suffered, only that he was "bleeding profusely" when law enforcement and emergency medical services personnel arrived.
A handgun was used during the fight and it is believed that one shot was fired during the incident, according to Shirley.
Both men were airlifted to hospitals in Virginia following the incident, with Tingley going to Winchester Medical Center and Hendricks to Inova Fairfax Hospital, according to Shirley.
The JCSD is currently investigating the incident and no arrests have been made at this point. The West Virginia State Police and EMS units from the Blue Ridge Mountain and Friendship fire companies, along with the Jefferson County Emergency Services Agency, responded to the scene Thursday night.
