MARTINSBURG - A 20-year-old Berkeley County man was arrested late Sunday night after allegedly opening fire inside a house in Martinsburg.

There were six people inside the house when the shooting took place, but no one was injured during the incident, police said.

The alleged shooter, Justin Wayne Willingham, of Bunker Hill, was charged with six counts of wanton endangerment, one count of burglary, carrying a concealed deadly weapon and obstructing an officer.

On Sunday, at about 9:26 p.m., members of the Martinsburg City Police Department responded to the 1400 block of New York Avenue for a report of shots being fired. While officers were on their way to the call, police were told that the suspect had entered a residence and discharged a firearm into the floor of the house. Officers arrived at the scene and located the suspect in a vehicle a few blocks from away. Patrolman First Class D. North, Patrolman J. Crites and Patrolman P. Lehman were able to stop the vehicle and take the suspect into custody after a short struggle. A search of the vehicle revealed a .45-caliber handgun secreted away within the passenger compartment and several spent shell casings.
