Police agencies are working directly with the Secret Service.

One would think so, but Thurmont's Mayor, Marty Burns, says their town isn't doing a whole lot of prepping for the upcoming G8 Summit. "I know that local, municipal, county, and state police agencies are working directly with the Secret Service. They can handle any potential issues that could arise," said Burns.

"We have not been asked to do anything specific from a municipal standpoint, except to just be a player and a team member with those other organizations," continued Burns. " A lot of times, events like these, handled up at Camp David, we see an influx of reporters and staff people from different countries. We still expect that today. There's been some suggestion to get flags from the different countries and put them up in the downtown area, and have a banner welcoming the G8 Summit," continued Barnes. Burns said he also wants the town's two parks to be spruced up for the weekend.

In just weeks, the town of 6,000 will play host to world leaders, diplomats, and demonstrators at the 38th G8 Summit taking place on May 18th and 19th.
