It's one of four schools in Maryland to receive the award.

Congratulations go out to the Lucy School in Frederick County.   It's one of four in Maryland named for the inaugural Green Ribbon award by the US Department of Education.

Federal officials launched the award to recognize schools that save energy, reduce costs, feature environmentally sustainable learning places, and offer environmental education.   78 schools from 29 states and the District of Columbia received the honors.

Maryland tied with California, New Jersey, Oregon, Pennsylvania and Washington for the most schools recognized in this new program.

The Lucy School is located along Frostown Road near Myersville. The school's web site says it's an arts-based institution for early childhood learning.

The other Maryland schools which received Green Awards are Dunloggin Middle School in Howard County, Folger Elementary School in Anne Arundel County, and Francis Scott Key Middle School in Montgomery County. All four schools were recommended by the Maryland State Department of Education.
