Officials in Thurmont say Main Street is closed due to a large number of people at the Square Corner. Also closed is Water Street between Main Street and Frederick Road. North Church Street is also closed to all traffic between Main Street and Woodside Avenue. Authorities are calling for special reinforcement.
Meanwhile, scores of Ethiopian immigrants are joining a demonstration in Maryland targeting a global economic summit at nearby Camp David.
At least three busloads of flag-waving Ethiopians from the Washington-Baltimore area arrived Saturday morning in the small mountain town of Thurmont. Thurmont is several miles from the Presidential Retreat where Ethiopian Prime Minister, Meles Zenawi and three other African heads of state are invited to discuss food security with leaders of the group of eight.
Critics say Zehawi's government represses civil rights and news media. The United States is a major contributor of aid to Ethiopia.
Five Ethiopians in a car say they tried to drive to Camp David but were turned away.
Organizers of the demonstration say they're planning a midday march in the town of 6,200.
