He's currenty hospitalized for his injuries.
Ten charges have been filed against James Jacob Jardina, 45, of Myersville in connection with an incident early Sunday morning at a park and ride lot on Route 66 in Washington County.
The Sheriff’s Office says Jardina faces two counts each of first and second-degree assault, and one count each of theft by possession under $1,000, violation of a protective order (possession of a handgun in violation of a protective order), use of a handgun in the commission of a felony, possession of a handgun (no permit to carry), possession of a handgun in a vehicle and possession of a stolen, regulated handgun. If he’s convicted on all of these counts, Jardina could be spending more than 50 years in prison, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
Jardina was shot and wounded by two police officers during a confrontation at the park and ride. Authorities say he pointed at gun at the two officers. They say Jardina was told by the officers to get out of his truck and show his hands.
Jardina remains in the hospital with serious injuries, and the Sheriff’s Office says he will be served with the arrest warrant when he’s medically able.
Investigators say Jardina had contemplated suicide. During a search of his truck, they found a note to his wife containing funeral instructions, and how to access his 401-K and Social Security to pay any bills.
The Sheriff’s Office has identified the two officers who fired on Jardina. They are Deputy Jason Logsdon, whose been with the Washington County Sheriff’s Office for four years, but was a police officer with another agency before that time; and Officer Daniel Harbaugh, whose been with the Natural Resources Police for 23 years.
Investigators say both men fired a total of 33 shots at Jardina, four or five hit him in the torso. Jardina did not fire his weapon, but he pointed it at the two officers.
The Washington County State’s Attorney’s Office is reviewing the investigation into the shootings by these two officers, who have been placed on administrative leave.
