The incident happened at the park and ride lot off Mapleville Road earlier this month.

A Myersville, Md., man who was wounded by law-enforcement officers in a hail of gunfire earlier this month at the park-and-ride lot off Mapleville Road remains in critical condition at a Baltimore hospital.

James Jacob Jardina, 46, was listed in critical condition Friday afternoon at R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Medical Center in Baltimore, a hospital spokeswoman said.

A Washington County Sheriff’s Office deputy and an officer from the Maryland Department of Natural Resources Police, armed with .223-caliber rifles, fired 33 shots at Jardina after he pointed a handgun at them in the early morning hours of June 10 at the parking lot near Boonsboro, the Washington County Sheriff’s Office has said.

Deputies said Jardina was hit four of five times in the torso and hip areas.

Authorities said they believe Jardina was attempting to commit suicide when he pointed the gun at the officers.
