Maryland State Highway workers have flagging operations underway at U.S. 40 alternate, and Poffenberger Road, just east of Hagerstown, in Washington County. SHA spokeswoman Heather Keels says its because crews are working on a project to make that intersection wide which will help improve sight distance. "A later phase of the project is that we are going to convert the intersection of Poffenberger Road and Garis Shop Road to a roundabout," continued Keels. This, she says, is to help slow traffic down as motorists approach U.S. 40. "And that's going to happen this Fall. And when we get to that part of the project, it's actually going to require a closure at Poffenberger Road, but there will be a detour, but local access will be available for homes on Poffenberger Road," continued Keels.

Right now, motorists can expect single lane closures Monday through Friday, between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m., weather permitting.
