About 600 new undergraduate & graduate students will be enrolled at Hood.
Classes will be resuming later this month at Hood College. The fall semester kicks off on Monday, August 20th with a convocation at 10:00 AM led by President Ron Volpe. "We'll be looking for about 600 new undergraduate and graduate students that will begin this fall semester," says Volpe.
He says most of these students come from Maryland, but there are those who hail from 21 different states, as far away as California, Colorado, Texas, New York, New Jersey, New Hampshire, Michigan and other locations. In addition, Volpe says, 15 foreign countries are represented, such as Canada, China, Haiti, Honduras, Vietnam and South Korea. "So it's a very diverse class and we're excited about that," he says.
Right now, Volpe says Hood's total enrollment for the upcoming school year should be about 1500-1600 undergraduate students, and about 900 to 1,000 graduate students. That's totals to about 2500 students overall, he says.
Hood has hired some new faculty for the fall semester in such subjects as English, Math, Accounting, Early Childhood Education and Nursing, says Vople.
One new program beginning this year is an interdisciplinary writing program for all incoming students. "Every discipline will have some special assignments, some special projects, to make writing a little more exciting for college students," says Volpe.
As part of a pilot program, all incoming first year students will receive a free IPAD. "And we began that last year by providing all new incoming students with an IPAD. We're still in a pilot stage so we'll be continuing that," says Volpe. He says the IPAD's are paid for with "gifts and donations" from generous alumni and donors.
