The Board of County Commissioners issued a press release on Thursday, in honor of the life of Army Sgt. David Williams, 24, who died in the line of duty on Saturday, August 18th, while serving his first deployment in Kandahar, Afghanistan.

Board President Blaine Young stated, "On behalf of the Board of County Commissioners, we express our heartfelt sympathy and condolences to the family members, friends and Army colleagues of Sgt. David Williams. We are grateful for his faithful service to the citizens of the United States and to Frederick County. As a graduate of Urbana High School in 2006, he is one of our own and will be greatly missed. Because of his sacrifice and the service of so many men and women in our military, the liberty and freedoms we hold dear as Americans are preserved, and we owe them a debt of gratitude. Our prayers are with the Williams’ family during this difficult time."

A Department of Defense announcement noted that Sgt. Williams died while supporting Operation Enduring Freedom. He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 1st Infantry Regiment, 2nd Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 2nd Infantry Division, Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Washington.
