An 18 year old man was killed, and an 18 year old suspect suffering from gunshot wound to head.
The Frederick County Sheriff’s Office, assisted by the Maryland State Police are currently investigating a crash related death that occurred early Saturday morning. In a press release, Cpl. Jennifer Bailey said at approximately 1:57a.m. deputies were dispatched to Black Road, in the area of Eylers Valley Flint Road, after a resident of the area reported finding a body in the roadway.
"When deputies arrived on the scene they found a deceased male, age 18 and resident of Thurmont, lying in the road. The victim’s injuries were consistent with those suffered in a vehicle crash. Deputies also found vehicle debris and skid marks in close proximity to the victim, but there was no vehicle on the scene," said Bailey.
As the investigation unfolded, information was received that the victim had been with one of his friends. Deputies responded to the friend’s residence, located in the 16,000 block of Eylers Valley Road. Upon arrival, they observed a Toyota truck with front end damage that was consistent with the debris left at the crash site on Black Road.
"Deputies knocked on door repeatedly,in an attempt to speak with the friend, but there was no answer at the door. When a trooper looked in the window and saw a man with serious injuries to his head, they entered the residence and found a man (age 18, and resident of Thurmont) with what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound to his head. Maryland State Police Aviation (Trooper 3) transported the man to R Adams Crowley Shock Trauma for treatment," Bailey stated.
The deceased victim was transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore where an autopsy will be conducted.
The gunshot victim continues to be treated at Shock Trauma.
Their identities will be released after all family notifications have been completed.
