One man was flown to Shock Trauma with life-threatening injuries.

A serious accident sent three people to the hospital late Wednesday night.

Tfc. Baker with Maryland State police in Frederick said a head-on collision happened at Route 194 and Stauffer Road around 9:45 p.m. "Upon arrival it was determined that a 2003 Jeep driven by Charles Olson was turning right onto southbound Route 194 from Stauffer Road. At that time, a Nissan Maxima, driven by Katie Norwood was traveling northbound on Route 194," said Tfc. Baker.

The investigation revealed that Olson accelerated rapidly from the intersection and lost control of his Jeep on the wet roadway. The Jeep traveled into the path of the Maxima and overturned, ejecting Olson. He was not wearing his seatbelt.

Olson was flown to Shock Trauma in Baltimore for treatment of life-threatening injuries.

Norwood and a passenger in Olson’s vehicle were both taken to Frederick Memorial Hospital with minor injuries.

The roadway was closed for one hour for the accident investigation.

Charges are pending against Olson.
