It turned out to be a coconut.

The Frederick County Court House was evacuated Wednesday morning after a suspicious item was found nearby.

A deputy doing a routine perimeter check at around 7:55 AM discovered a coconut next a column outside of the building. The tropical fruit appeared to have been cut down the center, and put back together.

The Sheriff's Office, Frederick Police, Fire and Rescue and the Maryland State Fire Marshal's Office Bomb Squad responded.  Agencies were evacuated and the outside area in front of the Court House and one office inside the building was secured.

Bomb Squad personnel examined the coconut, and found it to be harmless.

The court house was reopened.

Deputy Fire Marshal Matt Wrenn is handling the investigation.
