It was the victim, not the assailant.

Charges have been filed in connection with a stabbing on February 18th in Frederick. Joseph Louis Allen, 44, is charged with 1st, 2nd and 4th-degree burglary, and one count of 2nd-degree assault.

Police say on Feb. 18th, Allen knocked on the door of Daniel Minnick's home  at 69 South Market Street, and made his way into the home.  Allen assaulted Minnick, and the two men got into a physical altercation.  Minnick grabbed a knife to defend himself.  Allen was stabbed.  He was flown to Shock Trauma in Baltimore for treatment of his injuries and released.

Police took Allen into custody on Friday, March 2nd.

Investigators say this was not a random act of violence. At one time, Allen dated Minnick's girlfriend. Authorities say there was "a ongoing situation" with Allen's ex-girlfriend, and Minnick's present girlfriend, whose the same girl that Allen used to date. Police say this ongoing feud resulted in Allen being charged.

After consultation with the State's Attorney's Office, authorities say they decided not to charge Minnick.
