BOE expected to discuss at Wednesday meeting.
Out with the old and in with the new! That's what members on the Board of Education will be tossing during their Wednesday meeting. Ray Barnes, the Executive Director of Facilities Services says the topic of discussion will focus on design plans for the new North Frederick Elementary School. He says the old building will be demolished and replaced with a new building. "The County Commissioners are very supportive of this project. We expect to receive construction funding next fiscal year, so, we expect to be well under way by summer time, 2013."
One student said a few years ago she found a dead bat in a bathroom, and sometimes when you bend down to get a drink from the fountain you stare at a cockroach. Barnes said after North Frederick Elementary is completed, the next major school renovation or replacement project will be Frederick High. "We just received some funding from the State to perform a feasibility study for Frederick High," continued Barnes.
Other schools slated for renovations in the future are Waverly and Kemptown Elementary Schools. Barnes also said the Board is looking at the possibility of building a new elementary school in the Urbana area. "There's also been discussion of possible new schools for Brunswick, Lake Linganore, Green Valley and Monrovia."
