A 19 year old Brunswick man is charged with carrying a handgun and assaulting a police officer.

It happened Sunday when a traffic stop was made on a motor scooter in the area of Key Parkway and Bel Aire. Authorities said when they approached Lavonte Nash they noticed something bulging in the front of his pants. As they got closer, and asked for idenification, Nash jumped off his scooter and ran away. The officers eventually caught him, & got into a fight, and that's when Nash reached into his waistband and pulled out a loaded handgun. The officers were able to wrestle the handgun away from him. Both officers and Nash suffered minor injuries as a result of the struggle. Not only was Nash charged with assault and weapon offenses, but he was also in possession of suspected cocaine and cigarettes dipped in PCP.
