He chased the victim with a knife.
The investigation continues into a burglary Friday night at a home in Sykesville.
The Carroll County Sheriff's Office says the victim's dog who was tied up outside began barking at the garage at a residence in the 2,000 block of Harvest Farm Road. When the homeowner went to check it out, he came face-to-face with a man attempting to steal items from the garage. Both men fled. The victim began watching the suspect from the yard. He was chased by the suspect with a knife, but the victim locked himself inside his home.
Deputies responded and began a search for the suspect, but came up empty.
The individual is described as an African-American male, about 35 years old, with a mustache. He was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and black pants.
Authorities say the suspect entered the garage through an open door, and began removing tools valued at $50.
