Charges have been filed against a Frederick man who was taken into custody Wednesday afternoon. Matthew Wayne Davis, 28, was arrested in the 1300 block of North East Street for theft under $100 and drug possession. He's also wanted on a bench warrant for failure to appear in court on a charge of driving with a suspended license.
Police were called to the scene after receiving reports of a suspicious vehicle. When they arrived, they learned that the vehicle was displaying a registration plate that had been reported stolen. Officers moved in when they saw two individuals approaching the vehicle.
Authorities say Davis was carrying the keys for the vehicle. A search of his person netted a single narcotic pill. An investigation determined that Davis was the operator of the vehicle, which belonged to a family member.
He was taken before a District Court Commissioner.
