The animal had to be euthanized.

On Sunday, March 25, 2012, a Red Shouldered Hawk was found shot and now Frederick County Animal Control Officers want to know who did it. The Director, Harold Domer, said officers were dispatched out to the 2800 block of Wildwood Court, in Walkersville, to retrieve the injured bird. "They did examine the animal and determined that it had been shot with a small caliber weapon and had injured it's right wing." Second Chance Wildlife estimated that the injury probably occurred one week prior.

Obviously, as our investigation unfolds, and as information comes forward, we will determine if it was an intentional act or not. And depending on that, will determine what charges will be brought forth on Maryland State Laws dealing with protection of animals," continued Domer.

"Unfortunately the animal had to be euthanized."

Anyone with information on the incident is asked to contact Officer Michael Douglas at 301.600.1544.
