Bechtel Power of Frederick will be working with Habitat for Humanity to construct two town houses in the downtown. The two homes will be located at 20 and 22 West 7th Street on lots donated from part of the Hope IV housing project. A groundbreaking is scheduled for Saturday, March 31st at 1:00 PM.
"We're delighted to be working with Habitat for Humanity on this project," says Lee Lushbaugh, manager of Bechtel Power's Executive Unit based in Frederick, in a statement.
The company says it will provide the materials and hundreds of volunteers to build the homes. "Our employees helped Habitat complete other homes on Madison Street and now they are anxious to contribute to this effort," Lushbaugh says. "Bechtel employees are known for getting involved in the communities where they live and work, and we anticipate 300 employees volunteering over the lifetime of this project.
Work on the project is expected to take place on the weekends, and plans are to have both town houses completed by July.
When the homes are finished, a dedication ceremony is planned where the two families who will be moving into the town houses will be handed the keys.
