Local officials are remembering former Frederick Alderman David "Kip" Koontz who has died. "It's very sad to hear the passing of Mr. Koontz, at such an early age. He was very active in our City and always willing to help you out," said Mayor Randy McClement.

Koontz served from 2006 to 2009 as an Alderman, with County Commissioner Paul Smith, who said even though he and Kip didn't always agree, they did have a bond. "We were different on some issues, but we were good friends. We probably clashed a little more strongly at first, but worked pretty well together. He was, of course, very articulate and quite dynamic. You always knew where he stood," continued Smith.

Koontz was 48.

Keeney and Basford Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
