Frederick County local residents are asked for their input regarding the proposed operating budget for the next fiscal year at a public hearing on May 2nd.

Commissioners President Blaine Young said there is a placeholder in the budget for teacher pensions until the state decides whether or not they will go into a special session.

"We are keeping that as a place holder in our budget when we go to public hearing. We have expressed to the local elected board of education, that if they do not go back into special session, or dooms-day session as I called it and tax fee and shift everyone to death, that $3 million placeholder for teachers pension, that I would recommend to the board that the money will be given to the Board of Education as a one time non-reoccurring distribution outside of the maintenance of effort process," Young said.

The budget also includes $12 million to help address the current fire tax deficit and gives $6.7 million back to citizens in the form of a tax rebate.

The hearing will take place at Governor Thomas Johnson High School at 6 p.m.
